2016 is turning out to be a great year for
movies. From Captain America: Civil War to Finding Dory, there has been no
shortage of box office hits this year. Luckily, there are a number of upcoming
movies that promise to make the rest of 2016 just as great as the first half of
the year for moviegoers. Here are some of the best upcoming movies that are
worth a trip to the theater.
The Secret
Life of Pets
This animated comedy, set to hit theaters July
8th, is a comedy that shows exactly what pets do after their owners leave for
work or school. The movie is set in a Manhattan apartment building where
adorable pets hang out, help each other practice puppy looks to get more snacks
and trade gossip about their owners. The movie stars Max, a spoiled terrier
whose life is turned upside down when a new pet named Duke becomes part of the
family. Max instantly dislikes Duke and the two of them land on the streets of
New York City due to their mischief. Max and Duke find that they must work
together to escape the dangers of city life, including animal control and an
underground army of abandoned pets that are led by a cute, yet crazy rabbit,
Snowball. The Secret Life of Pets features an all-star comedy voice cast,
including Kevin Hart, Ellie Kemper, from Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt and Dana
Carver, famous for his role in Wayne’s World and many others.
Ghostbusters
This classic movie is back with a whole new
cast of characters and a twist on the original. This time, four female
scientists set out on a mission to save the world from supernatural beings. The
film features some of the best female comedians today, including Kristen Wiig,
Melissa McCarthy and Kate McKinnon. Ghostbusters will be released in theaters
on July 15th.
Suicide Squad
Suicide Squad, out in theaters on August 5th,
features a notorious group of villains that agree to work with the government
on a dangerous mission in exchange for a shorter prison sentence. The
characters must resolve their own conflicts and work together on this mission.
With some of today’s hottest actors, including Cara Delevingne and Will Smith,
this movie promises to be a hit.
Miss
Peregrine’s Home for Peculiar Children
This fantasy movie, based on the bestselling
novel by Ransom Riggs and directed by Tim Burton, follows a 16-year-old named
Jake, who is tormented by nightmares after a family tragedy. Jake embarks on a
journey to a Welsh Island to look for clues to help him find the abandoned
orphanage where his grandfather once resided. Jake finds the orphanize and
discovers that it is a gateway to a fantasy realm where unusual children are
cared for by a magical guardian. Miss Peregrin’s Home for Peculiar Children
will be available in theaters on September 30th.
The Girl on
the Train
The Girl on the Train is based on the New York
Times Bestselling novel written by Paula Hawkins. In this psychological
thriller, Rachel, played by Emily Blunt, is devastated by her recent divorce.
Every day, she takes the train to work. The train passes by her old house where
her ex-husband lives with his new family. In an attempt to escape her own
misery about the divorce and focus on something else besides her ex-husband,
Rachel spends her commute fantasizing about a couple that she notices that live
a couple of houses down from her ex-husband. The couple appear perfect from
Rachel’s view on the train. She imagines that they have a perfect life. Then,
one morning Rachel sees something shocking that shakes up her image of this
couple. Then the wife goes missing and Rachel becomes entangled in a mystery
that involves the couple. You can catch The Girl on the Train in theaters
October 7th.
